Literature Text

Minutes later after discovering that Aladdin had the genie’s lamp and after Jafar exposed his potion that made his bird, Iago and himself disappear and gloated over their escape, he noticed Iago was getting awfully weary and ready to go to sleep. It wasn’t long before Iago yawned and fell asleep, snoring. His boss stroked the sleeping bird’s back. “Goodnight, Iago and dream about stealing the lamp,” he said.

Early in the morning, Jafar’s mind was still stuck on getting the genie’s lamp. So, he watched as Iago slept and whispered in a soothing voice to get his parrot’s attention, “Iago?”

Iago hadn’t woken up for Jafar yet. He just stayed sleeping until Jafar yelled, “Wake up, Iago!” Finally, to his surprise, Iago was awake. “Now, are you ready to get that lamp?”

The bird yawned, but then became fully awake, in his parrot voice, saying, “Ack! The lamp!”

“Go, you pipsqueak!” Jafar growled.

“Okay, I’m leaving! Geez!” Iago yelled back as he flew away in pursuit of the lamp.

Author’s note: Now, the second part was based on a dream I had a few years ago.

Takes place after Jafar discovers that Aladdin has the genie's lamp.
